About Hobbs Park in Springfield
Hobbs Park in Springfield, Illinois, is a compact 7.2-acre park primarily dedicated to baseball and softball activities. Established in 1963, the park is named after John W. Hobbs, a local community figure and donor. Located in the southeast part of Springfield near the intersection of Fox Bridge Road and Culver Avenue, this park is set among residential areas, railroad tracks, and a wooded area.
The park is best known for its three ball diamonds. Of these, two are equipped with lights, bleachers, and dugouts—suitable for evening games and practices. The third diamond features movable bleachers, giving it a flexible layout. The westernmost field, known as the Kelli Hogan Field, is not owned by the Park District but is maintained and permitted through them, making it an additional venue for youth baseball and softball events.
In addition to the ball fields, Hobbs Park offers a playground near its centrally located concession and restroom building. The playground has a grass surface, making it a pleasant area for children. Restrooms are available for visitors' convenience. A gravel parking lot, located on the park's east side near Fox Bridge Road, provides space for approximately 30 vehicles.
Although the park's primary focus is on sports, it also features picnic tables and a shelter for casual gatherings. However, the park has relatively few trees, with most being situated near the parking lot. Open from dawn to dusk, Hobbs Park caters to both organized sports teams and casual visitors.
