About Boone Street Playlot in Fort Wayne
Boone Street Playlot is a small, neighborhood-focused park located at the intersection of Boone Street and Mechanic Street in the Nebraska Neighborhood of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Spanning just 0.33 acres, it has served the local community since its establishment in 1969. The park was created as part of a broader initiative to develop neighborhood playlots, funded by Revenue Sharing programs and guided by local Neighborhood Associations.
A significant feature of Boone Street Playlot is its recently revitalized playground, which was upgraded in 2024. The new design includes inclusive play equipment aimed at fostering physical, social, and emotional growth for children aged 2 to 12. The playground features synthetic turf surfacing for safety, climbing structures, slides, swings, balance activities, and ground-level interactive elements. These upgrades ensure inclusivity and accessibility, encouraging children of all abilities to participate. The park also promotes social interaction through group-oriented play activities, contributing to the sense of community in the neighborhood. For caregivers, newly added bench seating around the playground provides a relaxing space to watch over their children.
The improvements made in 2024 were supported by both municipal funding and a grant from the AWS Foundation, which aims to increase accessibility across Fort Wayne's parks. Boone Street Playlot's enhancements reflect the city’s commitment to creating welcoming spaces for all visitors, regardless of ability.
