About Southeastway Park in Indianapolis
Southeastway Park is a 188-acre nature park located in the southeast corner of Marion County, Indianapolis, Indiana. Officially dedicated on July 23, 1972, the park is managed by the Indianapolis Parks and Recreation Department and is easily accessible from I-74 at the Acton Road exit in Franklin Township.
The park offers a diverse range of natural habitats, including 80 acres of forest, a pond and wetland, open fields and meadows, several prairies, and Buck Creek. This variety of ecosystems provides visitors with opportunities to explore and appreciate different aspects of nature.
Southeastway Park features approximately 2.5 miles of paved walking and biking trails, allowing visitors to traverse the park's varied terrain. The park also includes a sledding hill for winter recreation.
Throughout the year, Southeastway Park hosts numerous environmental education programs and special events. One of the most notable events is Bug Fest, held annually in August. The park also offers seasonal activities such as maple syrup making from mid-February to mid-March, summer camps in June and July, and hayrides from late September to early November.
The park's Activity Center, available for rent during fall and winter months, serves as a venue for private events and educational programs. Southeastway Park is open daily from dawn to dusk, and there is no fee to visit the grounds.
