Herron-Morton Place Historic Park

Herron-Morton Place Park, located in the historic Herron-Morton neighborhood of Indianapolis, Indiana, is a welcoming green space that reflects the area's rich history and offers amenities for both recreation and relaxation. Situated on Alabama Street between 19th and 20th Streets, this park is a cornerstone project of the Herron-Morton Place Foundation, completed in 2003 as a tribute to the neighborhood's spirit.

The park includes a playground tailored for children, featuring a variety of play structures, such as slides, a climbing rock, monkey bars, and springy horses. Additionally, the playground is divided into areas for toddlers and older children, with features such as swings for different age groups. The ground is covered in wood chips, ensuring safety for children at play. Surrounding the play area are benches under shady trees, providing parents and visitors with comfortable spots to rest while keeping an eye on activities.

One of the park's distinguishing features is its open-air pavilion situated at the back. This pavilion serves as a venue for community events, concerts, and private gatherings, available for reservation. The park also hosts community events like the Near North Farmers Market during the warmer months, a vibrant addition that underscores its role as a hub for local engagement.

A historic marker and a granite boulder commemorate the park's past as part of Camp Morton, a Civil War-era prisoner-of-war camp, connecting the space to its historical roots.
