The Sim Park Outdoor Workout Area, part of the larger Arthur B. Sim Memorial Park in Wichita, Kansas, is a versatile recreational space located near the Arkansas River. Established in 1917, the park spans 157 acres donated by Coler L. Sim in memory of his son, Arthur Barnes Sim. It is designed to cater to a variety of outdoor activities, combining natural beauty with urban functionality. Nestled within the Museum District, Sim Park offers a serene environment for fitness enthusiasts, nature lovers, and families.
The outdoor workout area is situated next to the Botanica Gardens and includes a range of exercise stations for calisthenics and bodyweight training. Equipment such as pull-up bars, monkey bars, parallel bars, low bars, Swedish wall bars, and incline benches provide ample opportunities for strength training, freeletics, parkour, and other fitness routines. This area supports an active lifestyle and welcomes users of all fitness levels.
Sim Park also features trails, including a 0.78-mile wood-chip exercise trail and a paved path with ten exercise stations, specifically designed for accessibility. The park's amenities extend beyond fitness, with picnic tables, shelters, grills, and a unique horseshoe-shaped table that seats 75 people, making it an ideal spot for gatherings. Visitors can also explore the Wichita Wild Habitat Area, enhancing their experience with birdwatching and nature walks.
Additionally, the park is home to the Sim Park Municipal Golf Course and the Old Cowtown Museum, which add historical and recreational depth to the area. The golf course, a par 71 layout at 6,330 yards, is one of the city's busiest and offers scenic views along tree-lined fairways within the park's picturesque setting.
