Moncus Park

Moncus Park is a 100-acre community park located in the heart of Lafayette, Louisiana. Originally agricultural land owned by the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, the area was transformed into a public greenspace after local advocacy efforts in the early 2000s. Today, Moncus Park is managed as a nonprofit and serves as a regional hub for recreation, community events, and ecological preservation.

The park features a variety of landscapes, including historic live oak trees, wetlands, and green fields, making it an inviting destination for nature lovers. Visitors can explore a network of walking trails, including a 1-mile loop, which winds through the picturesque grounds. Orlando Mountain, the highest point in Lafayette, is a unique highlight, offering scenic views of the surroundings. Lake Reaux adds a serene atmosphere, complemented by a dedicated fishing pier and areas for wildlife observation.

Moncus Park also offers a vibrant array of family-friendly attractions. The Ochsner Playground is an inclusive, nature-inspired play area designed for children of all ages and abilities, while the Our Lady of Lourdes Interactive Water Adventure provides a creative water feature for interactive fun. Treehouses, such as the Savoy Family Treehouse and the Dreamhouse, provide unique elevated spaces for exploration and gatherings. Other notable attractions include the Veterans Memorial, the First Horizon Amphitheater for live performances, and the LPTFA Outdoor Classroom for educational programs.
