Stony Run Park

Stony Run Park in Baltimore, Maryland is a unique urban green space that follows the course of Stony Run, a tributary stream of Jones Falls. The park stretches approximately 3 miles through north-central Baltimore, offering residents and visitors a natural respite within the city.

Unlike traditional parks, Stony Run Park is primarily characterized by its linear trail system that follows the contours of Stony Run creek. The park connects 15 different neighborhoods, providing numerous access points for local residents. The trail winds through wooded areas, open meadows, and alongside the stream, offering varied scenery and habitats for local wildlife.

The park's history is intertwined with that of the Maryland and Pennsylvania Railroad, known affectionately as the Ma & Pa. When the railroad ceased operations in the 1950s, the abandoned right-of-way gradually transformed into the walking path that exists today. This transformation was largely driven by community efforts, with local residents working to create and maintain the trail over several decades.
