Pope John Paul II Park

Pope John Paul II Park Reservation, located in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts, is a 66-acre state park nestled along the banks of the Neponset River. The park, managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), is a reclaimed space that was transformed from a former landfill and drive-in theater into a thriving hub of ecological restoration and recreational activity. This transformation is part of the Lower Neponset River Master Plan and the broader development of the Neponset River Greenway.

The park provides a range of amenities and activities for visitors, including extensive trails for walking, hiking, running, and biking. These trails are also part of the Lower Neponset River Trail, which connects the park to other green spaces in the area. Restoration efforts have included the revitalization of a salt marsh environment and the planting of native trees and shrubs, making the park an attractive habitat for a variety of bird species, such as snowy egrets and great blue herons.
