Forest Park

Forest Park, located in Springfield, Massachusetts, is one of the largest urban municipal parks in the United States, covering 735 acres of land overlooking the Connecticut River. Established in 1884, the park has grown over the years through various donations and land purchases.

The park features a diverse landscape, including winding wooded trails, expansive views, lakes, and ponds. Pecousic Brook occupies more than half of the south side of Forest Park, creating a naturalistic area with walking trails and elegant bridges. The park is home to many species of birds and wildlife, offering visitors opportunities for nature observation.

Forest Park contains several notable attractions, including the Forest Park Zoo, which houses various exotic and indigenous animals. The park also features America's first public municipal swimming pool, dating back to 1899. During the winter holiday season, Forest Park hosts a popular high-tech lighting display known as Bright Nights, featuring a 2.6-mile trail of large, intricate, animated lighting displays. This event has become a significant attraction for the park and the city.
