About Vernon Hill Playground in Worcester
Vernon Hill Park is a 15.2-acre public space located atop Vernon Hill in Worcester, Massachusetts. Established as a city park, it offers a variety of recreational facilities for residents and visitors alike.
The park features several sports amenities, including two baseball fields and two softball fields, making it a popular destination for local baseball and softball teams. It serves as the home field for East Side Babe Ruth, a local youth baseball organization.
One of the park's main attractions is the Dennis F. Shine Jr. Memorial Swimming Pool, which provides a refreshing escape during hot summer days. The pool, originally dedicated in 1970 and renovated in 2009, is named after a local hero who lost his life in Vietnam. While located within the city park, the pool is operated by the state's Department of Conservation and Recreation.
In August 2017, Vernon Hill Park became home to Worcester's first off-leash dog park. This 17,400 square foot fenced area is divided into two sections: one for smaller dogs and another for larger breeds. The dog park includes amenities such as complimentary waste disposal bags to help maintain cleanliness.
The park also includes a playground area with various equipment such as slides, monkey bars, climbing structures, and swings, providing entertainment for children of different ages.
