About Lincoln Street Art Park in Detroit
Lincoln Street Art Park is an outdoor sculpture garden and art gallery located in the Northwest Goldberg neighborhood of Detroit, Michigan. Established in 2011, the park occupies approximately 1 acre of land behind the Recycle Here! recycling facility.
The park originated as a community effort to clean up and repurpose a vacant industrial lot. Local artists and organizers worked together to transform the space into a public art installation, using salvaged materials from the adjacent recycling center to create sculptures and other artworks.
Lincoln Street Art Park features an ever-changing collection of murals, street art, and site-specific installations. Many of the sculptures and artworks are made from recycled materials, reflecting the park's connection to the nearby recycling facility. The dynamic nature of the space means that visitors may encounter new pieces or evolving artworks with each visit.
The park includes a stage area that has been used for various community events and performances. A notable feature is the railroad viaduct that passes over part of the park, adding to its industrial aesthetic. Some artworks are even positioned along or underneath this viaduct.
In 2020, the park temporarily closed for remodeling and redesign, reopening in July 2023. The space continues to evolve, with new artworks and installations being added regularly. The park serves as a hub for Detroit's artistic community and provides a unique outdoor gallery experience for visitors.
Lincoln Street Art Park is open to the public 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and admission is free. However, as with any urban space, visitors are advised to exercise caution, especially during nighttime hours.
