About Pingree Park in Detroit

Pingree Park is an 18-acre green space located in Detroit, Michigan, at the intersection of East Forest Avenue and Iroquois Avenue. Named after former Detroit Mayor Hazen Pingree, it serves as a centerpiece for the surrounding Pingree Park neighborhood, a historic area known for its early 20th-century homes. The park acts as a communal hub, providing a space for both recreation and neighborhood gatherings.

The park underwent a significant transformation in 2017 as part of a revitalization mission led by Project EverGreen and its partners. This effort included enhancements such as tree planting, grass improvements, and the renovation of playground areas. In addition to aesthetic improvements, safety measures for children were implemented, particularly in the grass sports fields. The goal was to restore the park's functionality as a vibrant community gathering place while contributing to the area's environmental health. A second phase of renovations launched in 2018 introduced new walking paths, a grass amphitheater, and expanded greenery along East Forest Avenue.

In its current state, Pingree Park provides a variety of recreational opportunities for the local residents. Its design fosters physical activity and social interactions while maintaining a lush natural setting. The park continues to be a source of pride for the neighborhood, serving as a vital green space amidst Detroit's urban landscape.
