About Ehinger Park in Lansing
Ehinger Park is a tranquil community park located in East Lansing, Michigan. Nestled within a residential neighborhood, the park is encircled by mature trees that create a serene, shaded environment. Its layout takes advantage of the natural terrain, as it sits in a small bowl-like area, providing a cozy and peaceful atmosphere for visitors.
The park's central low-lying area often retains water after rainfalls, and the entry slope from Chesterfield Parkway is notable for its steepness, which neighborhood children utilize as a sledding hill in winter. While picturesque, this slope presents some challenges, such as erosion risks, and it's mostly devoid of vegetation. Despite its natural charm, the absence of barrier-free access limits inclusivity for people with mobility challenges.
Substantial improvements were made to Ehinger Park in 2010 and 2011. These upgrades included the installation of engineered fiber mulch under its play structures, the addition of three new pieces of playground equipment, replacement of stairs from Chesterfield Parkway, and drainage system repairs. However, community concerns have prevented the addition of further hardscape, such as a walkway from the road to the playground. Today, the park remains a cherished local spot for relaxation and children's outdoor play, balancing its natural surroundings with practical enhancements.
