Wadsworth Park

Wadsworth Park is a small neighborhood park located in Lee's Summit, Missouri. Situated in the Mulberry East subdivision off Chestnut Street, this compact green space spans 1.9 acres. The park was donated to the city of Lee's Summit by Ferrol Gehrig in 1978, making it a relatively long-standing fixture in the community.

Despite its small size, Wadsworth Park offers a variety of features for local residents. The park boasts a large open green space, which is well-maintained and bordered by mature Cedar trees on one side and Pin Oaks on the other. This arrangement provides pleasant shade along the edges of the park. During autumn, the open area is often utilized for soccer practice by children in the neighborhood.

The park includes a playground area, which, while modest in size, is shaded and can keep children entertained. The playground equipment includes a tunnel slide, monkey bars, and two standard-sized swings. The ground cover beneath the playground equipment consists of wood chips, which is suitable for a park of this scale.

For sports enthusiasts, Wadsworth Park features a basketball court. While functional, the court has shown signs of wear over time, with some of the concrete beginning to crumble. This condition reflects the park's status as a small neighborhood amenity rather than a primary focus for the city's parks and recreation department.

Wadsworth Park also provides some seating options for visitors. There are a couple of benches scattered around the park, as well as a shelter with picnic tables, offering spaces for relaxation and gatherings. A drinking fountain is located between the basketball court and playground, though it's typically turned off during winter and early spring months.

While Wadsworth Park may not boast the extensive facilities of larger city parks, it serves its purpose as a convenient, close-to-home recreational space for residents of the surrounding neighborhood. Its modest size and amenities fit well within the residential setting, providing a pleasant outdoor area for local families and individuals to enjoy.
