About Zagonyi Park in Springfield

Zagonyi Park is a public park located in Springfield, Missouri. Established in 1969, the park spans approximately 10 acres and is situated at the corner of Mt. Vernon Street and Park Avenue. The park is named after Major Charles Zagonyi, who led a notable cavalry charge in Springfield during the Civil War on October 25, 1861.

In 2019, the park underwent improvements, including the addition of a new universal-design accessible playground. The park also features a circular community flower garden, which houses a historic marker commemorating Zagonyi's Charge. This stone monument, originally placed in 1931, was relocated to the park to preserve its historical significance.

The park offers a mix of recreational facilities and open spaces, catering to various activities and age groups. Its location on the west side of Springfield makes it a convenient spot for nearby residents to enjoy outdoor pursuits and community gatherings.
