About Mahoney Park in Lincoln
Mahoney Park is a 77-acre community park located in northeast Lincoln, Nebraska near the intersection of North 70th Street and Adams Street. The park was originally named Northeast Park when it was created in 1969, following project approval from the Department of Outdoor Recreation.
Development of Mahoney Park included a variety of recreational facilities and natural areas. The park contains open green spaces, wooded areas, and trails for walking and biking. A playground provides equipment for children to enjoy outdoor play. For sports enthusiasts, the park offers softball fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, and sand volleyball courts.
Several open shelters are available throughout the park, providing shaded areas for picnics and gatherings. An adult fitness station located in the northeast corner of the park near the Shanda Dixon and Murdock trails allows visitors to exercise outdoors. The fitness equipment was added in 2020 in memory of Kelly Rae Atchison, a local fitness enthusiast.
Mahoney Park connects to the city's trail system, with access to the Murdock Trail. This allows park visitors to easily connect to other parts of Lincoln via the trail network. The park's diverse amenities and natural spaces make it a popular destination for northeast Lincoln residents seeking outdoor recreation close to home.
