About Upland Park in Omaha
Upland Park is a public park located in South Omaha, Nebraska. Established in 1913, the park has been an integral part of the community for over a century.
In 1999, Upland Park underwent a significant renovation that included replacing the old swimming pool with a "sprayground," a small water park feature. This addition proved to be immensely popular, resulting in a 412 percent increase in park attendance and attracting 7,500 additional users annually.
The park plays a crucial role in the local community, particularly for low-income and immigrant youth. It has been notably important for soccer enthusiasts, contributing to the success of the Omaha South High School's soccer team.
However, due to its proximity to the former ASARCO site in Omaha, Upland Park has been identified as having lead contamination, which is an environmental concern for the area.
In 2023, the park's splash pad received a renovation, providing residents with an improved place to cool off during the summer months.
