About Logan Park in Omaha

Logan-Fontenelle Park is a 108-acre public park located in North Omaha, Nebraska. Established in 1893, the park has a rich history and has undergone several transformations over the years. Originally purchased as a cow pasture, it remained undeveloped for nearly two decades before being integrated into Omaha's park and boulevard system designed by landscape architect Horace Cleveland.

The park features a large lagoon that was created in 1915, fed by a natural spring. This lagoon has been a popular spot for activities like ice skating in winter. In the past, the park also housed a nine-hole golf course that circled the lagoon, occupying about 80 acres on the western end of the park. However, the golf course has since been removed to allow for the development of more diverse recreational opportunities.

Logan-Fontenelle Park has played a significant role in Omaha's sports history. In 1939, it hosted the American Legion World Series, drawing crowds of up to 13,000 fans. The park's baseball field was once considered one of the best in Omaha, complete with grandstands and bleachers.

In recent years, the City of Omaha has invested in revitalizing Logan-Fontenelle Park. The lagoon has been expanded and stocked with fish, and new walking paths have been constructed. A 1.5-mile loop trail now encircles the park, providing visitors with opportunities for exercise and leisurely strolls. The park also underwent major rehabilitation in 1998, which included improvements to the lagoon, ball fields, and walkways.

Today, Logan-Fontenelle Park serves as a multi-use recreational space for the North Omaha community, offering a blend of natural beauty and modern amenities. Its transformation continues as the city works to make it a scenic destination full of activities for families, with the added hope of reducing crime in the area through increased community engagement.
