About Harriman Park in Manchester
Harriman Park is a small neighborhood park located at the intersection of Lake Avenue and Hall Street in Manchester, New Hampshire. Originally named East Side Park, it was given to the city by Emma S. Richard on October 31, 1905. The park was renamed on May 2, 1922, in honor of Lt. Lynn H. Harriman, who served in the 101st Infantry during World War I.
Lt. Harriman was mortally wounded in combat on May 1, 1918, and died on May 31, 1918. For his bravery, he was awarded the French Croix de Guerre and the American Distinguished Service Cross posthumously. Despite not being born or living in Manchester, the park was named after him to commemorate his heroic service.
Encompassing 0.41 acres, Harriman Park serves as a local recreational space for the surrounding community. The park's modest size makes it an ideal spot for casual relaxation and small gatherings. Its location at the corner of two streets provides easy access for nearby residents.
