About Workers Memorial Park in Albuquerque

Worker's Memorial Park is located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The park received its name on April 28, 2000, when various Albuquerque union members gathered to change its designation from San Mateo Mini-Park. Two city councilors and area neighborhood associations supported the name change at that time.

The park is situated in the Mile Hi, Alvarado Park, and Sandia Ridge neighborhoods. It is represented by the Mile-Hi Neighborhood Association and the Alvarado Park Neighborhood Association.

In recent years, surrounding neighborhood residents voiced a desire for a more user-friendly park space. As a result, a re-design process was initiated to address issues of safety, shade, neighborhood identity, and recreation space.

Capital outlay funding for park improvements was provided by Representative Parajón and Senator Tallman in 2024. The redevelopment process involved community engagement, including walking tours of the park, park mapping, surveys, and community meetings.

The park's visioning and implementation process aims to create a space that better serves the local community while honoring its role as a memorial to workers.
