Sky Room Campus

Sky Room Campus Park is a multipurpose outdoor gathering space located in City Center, Rio Rancho, New Mexico. The park is accessible from Unser Blvd. or Paseo del Volcan. The park spans approximately 6 acres and serves as a destination for city events, concert performances, and daily use by college students, City Center workers, and local residents.

The park's centerpiece is the Sky Room, an architecturally distinctive performance space that has garnered recognition for its design. The structure features an elevated amphitheater seating area and can be illuminated at night, creating a lantern-like effect. The Sky Room's design incorporates perforated steel panels that allow wind to move through the structure, creating interesting sound effects.

Campus Park was developed in two phases, with Phase 1 completed in July 2021. The park's design concept draws inspiration from the natural character of the region, including the forms of mesas and escarpments, the Rio Grande river and bosque, and the sweeping views of surrounding mountain ranges. The park's layout takes advantage of the site's topography to create a series of outdoor rooms that offer protection from harsh environmental conditions.

The park features several large lawns divided by circulation paths and subtle topographic variations. These areas can accommodate gatherings of several thousand people. Smaller, more intimate spaces are also incorporated into the design, providing areas for quiet reflection or small group activities.
