About Liberty Park in Albany
Liberty Park is Albany's oldest public park, located in downtown Albany, New York. The small circular green space sits at the intersection of Hudson Avenue, Dallius Street, and Liberty Street.
Originally established in the 17th century as part of the Dongan Charter of 1686, which gave the city title to all property not privately owned, Liberty Park has served as a public gathering space for over 300 years. The park was formally organized as a public square in 1806.
Today, Liberty Park consists of a grassy area with a few trees and benches. While modest in size, it provides a pocket of greenery amid the surrounding urban landscape of downtown Albany. The park offers local workers and residents a place to relax or eat lunch outdoors.
As Albany's oldest park, Liberty Park holds historical significance, though it lacks many modern amenities. Its central location makes it easily accessible to those in the downtown area looking for a small outdoor space.
