Nathaniel Square

Nathaniel Square Park is a small urban pocket park located at the intersection of South Avenue and Alexander Street in the South Wedge neighborhood of Rochester, New York. The park was developed in the early 2000s on a previously vacant lot that had become a problematic area in the neighborhood.

The centerpiece of Nathaniel Square Park is a bronze statue of Colonel Nathaniel Rochester, the city's founder, created by local sculptor Pepsy Kettavong. The statue depicts Rochester in a contemplative pose, sitting on a bench. This artwork was installed in 2008 as part of the park's design to honor the city's history.

The park features brick walkways that lead to a small circular plaza surrounded by concrete benches. This design provides a pleasant space for visitors to sit and relax. The landscaping includes trees and plants that add greenery to the urban setting, creating a more inviting atmosphere for the community.

Nathaniel Square Park serves as a gathering place for local events and provides a bit of green space in the bustling South Wedge area. Its creation was part of a neighborhood revitalization effort, transforming what was once a troublesome vacant lot into a public space that enhances the community.
