About Genesee Valley Greenway State Park in Rochester
Genesee Valley Greenway State Park is a 90-mile long linear park that follows the route of the former Genesee Valley Canal and Pennsylvania Railroad. The park stretches from Rochester to Hinsdale in New York State, passing through Monroe, Livingston, Wyoming, Allegany, and Cattaraugus counties.
The section near Little Black Creek in Rochester offers a glimpse into the park's diverse landscape. This area features a mix of woodlands, wetlands, and open fields, providing visitors with opportunities to observe local flora and fauna. The trail surface here is primarily composed of packed cinders, gravel, and mowed grass, making it suitable for various recreational activities.
Little Black Creek, a tributary of the Genesee River, intersects with the Greenway in this section, adding to the area's natural beauty and ecological importance. The creek and surrounding wetlands serve as habitats for numerous plant and animal species, enhancing the park's biodiversity.
