About Middle Maplewood Park in Rochester
Maplewood Park is a historic urban park located in the northwest quadrant of Rochester, New York. Designed by renowned landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted in the 1890s, the park stretches for approximately two miles along the western bank of the Genesee River gorge.
The park features a diverse landscape that includes open meadows, wooded areas, and dramatic views of the river and its waterfalls. One of its most notable attractions is the Maplewood Rose Garden, which contains over 250 varieties of roses and hosts an annual Rose Festival in June.
Maplewood Park offers visitors access to the Genesee Riverway Trail, a paved pathway that runs along the edge of the gorge, providing scenic views and recreational opportunities. The park also includes several overlooks where visitors can observe the Lower Falls of the Genesee River.
Throughout its history, Maplewood Park has served as an important community gathering space and recreational area for Rochester residents. It continues to be maintained by the City of Rochester and supported by local community organizations.
