Downtown Cary Park is a seven-acre urban park located in the heart of downtown Cary, North Carolina. Opened in late 2023 after over two decades of planning, the park spans the area surrounded by Academy Street, Walker Street, Park Street, and Walnut Street.
The park features a variety of amenities designed to appeal to visitors of all ages and abilities. At its center is a large, multi-tiered fountain with colored lighting that serves as a focal point and gathering space. The park incorporates natural elements, with gardens and green spaces providing areas for relaxation and enjoyment of nature within the urban setting.
For active recreation, the park offers several options. There are play areas for children, including two iconic cardinal-shaped play structures and a splash pad for cooling off on hot days. The Park Street Courts area provides space for activities like table tennis and volleyball. A dog park called the Barkyard gives pets a place to play off-leash, with separate areas for large and small dogs.
The park was designed with sustainability in mind, incorporating features to preserve trees, vegetation, and wildlife habitats. The tiered water feature not only adds visual interest but also helps improve water quality and mitigate downstream flooding.
For events and gatherings, the park includes spaces like Frantz Square, the Great Lawn, and a performance pavilion. These areas host a variety of programming throughout the year, from concerts and movies to fitness classes and storytimes. The Cary Downtown Farmers Market is held in the park on Saturday mornings year-round.
Visitors can also enjoy food and beverages within the park. The Bark Bar offers beer, wine, and snacks in an open-air pavilion near the dog park. At Market 317 in the Academy Pavilion, guests can purchase grab-and-go meals, coffee, and other refreshments.
The park is open daily from 7 AM to 11 PM, providing a welcoming community space for both Cary residents and visitors to gather, relax, and enjoy outdoor activities in the center of town.
