About Lakeview Park in Durham
Lakeview Park is a wooded recreational area located in northeast Durham, North Carolina, across from Lakeview Secondary School. The park offers a blend of natural beauty and outdoor facilities for visitors to enjoy.
The park features a baseball/softball field suitable for youth games, providing a space for local teams and recreational players. A basketball court is also available for those looking to shoot some hoops or engage in pickup games.
For families and children, Lakeview Park includes a playground designed for ages 5-12. The playground equipment was installed in 2020 as part of a grant-funded project to enhance accessibility and play options. The area includes swings and is equipped with access-a-mats under the engineered wood fiber surfacing, making it more accessible for wheelchairs and strollers.
Picnic facilities are available for those looking to enjoy a meal outdoors. The park offers a picnic shelter that can be rented for gatherings, as well as picnic tables and a grill for public use.
In February 2021, Lakeview Park became home to a vibrant public art installation. A ground-plane mural titled "Sunshine Over Africa" was completed by local artist Wade Williams. The artwork features colorful elements including an Afrocentric pattern of a sunrise, a map of Africa, and both American and English hopscotch designs, adding cultural significance and visual interest to the park landscape.
Visitors to Lakeview Park can also make use of the restroom facilities and water fountain on site, ensuring comfort during their stay.
