About Center City Park in Greensboro
Center City Park is a 1.9-acre urban green space located in the heart of downtown Greensboro, North Carolina. Opened in December 2006, the park occupies the block between North Elm and North Davie Streets, bordered by West Friendly Avenue to the south and the Renaissance Tower office building to the north.
The park's focal point is a fountain designed as an abstract representation of the seasonal stream beds found throughout North Carolina's Piedmont region. Water flows down a series of stairs, increasing in size and intensity before gathering at the base of the park's Great Lawn. This central lawn area provides open space for various events and activities.
Center City Park features a blend of natural elements and artistic installations. The design incorporates granite features, including fountains, stairs, bollards, curbing, and paving, using Rockville White® and Mesabi Black® stone. Custom engravings in the granite reflect local horticulture, such as oak leaves, camellia, and cotton blossoms.
The park serves as a gathering place for Greensboro residents and visitors, offering a relaxed yet lively atmosphere in an urban setting. It hosts numerous free programs and events throughout the year, including arts and cultural activities, wellness programs, and community gatherings. The park is open daily from 7 AM to 10 PM, providing accessible green space for downtown workers, residents, and tourists alike.
Center City Park is part of a larger downtown park system that includes the adjacent LeBauer Park across North Davie Street. Together, these parks form a crucial component of Greensboro's efforts to promote health, wellness, and community engagement in the city center.
