About Helsel Park in Columbus

Helsel Park is a 41.12-acre regional park located in the Mid East community of Columbus, Ohio. The park is situated off S Hamilton Road and serves as a future trailhead for the Big Walnut Trail.

As part of Columbus Recreation and Parks Department's ongoing efforts to enhance community spaces, Helsel Park is slated for redevelopment beginning in spring 2024. The park's master plan, which covers nearly 60 acres, aims to address safety concerns and expand programming while increasing the tree canopy in the Eastland area.

The redevelopment plans for Helsel Park include creating play spaces for families and their pets, expanding natural areas for exploration and education, and developing an alternative transportation hub. The park's current athletic fields are planned to be relocated to another nearby park. It's worth noting that Helsel Park is situated in a floodway, which will influence the master plan and conceptual design of the park.

Helsel Park offers visitors a mix of natural and recreational spaces. The park features water frontage and wooded areas, providing opportunities for wildlife observation and nature exploration. It also includes paved paths for walking or jogging, making it accessible for visitors of various abilities.
