About Triangle Park in Dayton

Triangle Park is a historic park located in Dayton, Ohio. The park is situated at the confluence of the Great Miami River and Stillwater River. It has significant historical importance as the site of the first NFL game, which was played there on October 3, 1920 between the Dayton Triangles and the Columbus Panhandles.

Originally opened in 1916 as a company baseball field for employees of Dayton Engineering Laboratories (Delco), the park was later expanded and became home to the Dayton Triangles professional football team. The original stadium had a capacity of 5,000 spectators.

Today, Triangle Park continues to serve the community as a public park operated by the City of Dayton. It features both recreational facilities and open green spaces. The park includes a baseball/softball diamond and a soccer field, allowing for various sporting activities.

Triangle Park Pavilion, located within the park, can be reserved for special events and gatherings. The pavilion has a maximum occupancy of 120 people and can be rented for a fee.

In 2019, there were plans to construct a new artificial turf field at Triangle Park to commemorate the NFL's centennial season. However, this project was ultimately canceled due to the discovery of potentially prehistoric artifacts in the area during preliminary surveys.
