Manhattan Marsh Preserve Metropark

Manhattan Marsh Preserve Metropark is a 73-acre natural area located in North Toledo, Ohio. The park, which opened to the public in 2020, features a diverse wetland ecosystem that is one of the last remaining pieces of the larger wetlands that once dominated the region.

The centerpiece of the park is a 1.3-mile trail that includes nearly 1,500 feet of concrete "boardwalk" providing access into the marsh. This trail, known as the Buckeye Basin Loop Trail, allows visitors to explore the wetland habitat and observe the area's flora and fauna. Scenic overlooks along the trail offer visitors vantage points to appreciate the marsh's ever-changing landscape.

Manhattan Marsh Preserve serves as an important habitat for various wildlife species, particularly birds. The park is a popular spot for birdwatching, with Metroparks Toledo and Black Swamp Bird Observatory occasionally organizing birder-led outings. The preserve plays a crucial role in maintaining biodiversity in an urban setting and provides a unique opportunity for nature education and conservation efforts.

The park's development, completed by Metroparks of Toledo, has transformed what was previously an inaccessible natural area into a public space that combines ecological preservation with recreational opportunities.
