About LaFortune Park in Tulsa
LaFortune Park is a sprawling 270-acre public park located in midtown Tulsa, Oklahoma. Established in 1960, it holds the distinction of being the first county park in Oklahoma. The park was created through a generous donation of $250,000 by oilman J.A. LaFortune, who wanted to give back to the city that had been good to him.
The park features a diverse range of recreational facilities and natural spaces. At its heart lies an 18-hole championship golf course, complemented by the only lighted 18-hole par-3 course in Oklahoma. Golf enthusiasts can also take advantage of a lighted driving range with over eighty stations, open until 10 p.m. during peak seasons.
LaFortune Park boasts extensive sports facilities, including baseball fields, tennis courts, and a nationally recognized tennis center. For those seeking outdoor exercise, the park offers a 3.2-mile asphalt trail that winds through its grounds, popular among walkers and joggers.
The park's natural features include over 700 trees and 11 ponds, providing a serene environment for visitors. Families can enjoy multiple playgrounds and picnic areas, with three picnic pavilions available for rental. Fishing is permitted in two of the park's ponds, subject to Oklahoma fishing laws.
LaFortune Park serves as a community hub, hosting a variety of amenities such as the Buddy LaFortune Community Center and the Herman and Kate Kaiser Library. The park attracts over 100,000 visitors annually, making it a central feature of Tulsa's public spaces.
