About Ponderosa Park in Bend
Ponderosa Park is a 19-acre community park located in south central Bend, Oregon, near Bear Creek Elementary School. The park offers a variety of recreational facilities and green spaces for residents and visitors to enjoy.
The park features two popular skateparks, which attract enthusiasts from dawn to dusk almost every day of the year. These skateparks provide a dedicated space for skateboarders and BMX riders to practice their skills and socialize.
For sports enthusiasts, Ponderosa Park includes Hal Puddy Field, a ball field used for adult softball and youth soccer games during the spring, summer, and fall seasons. The field has a 50' pitching distance and multiple base distances (60', 65', 70', and 80'), though it lacks an outfield fence.
The park also boasts a playground area for children, providing a safe and fun environment for younger visitors. Additionally, there are basketball courts and a court marked for pickleball, offering options for various sports activities.
Dog owners can take advantage of the off-leash dog park area within Ponderosa Park, allowing pets to exercise and socialize freely. The park also features walking trails, including the Coyner Trail, which connects to other area neighborhoods and bike routes.
During winter months, the hill next to the ball field serves as a small sledding area, particularly suitable for young children. This adds a seasonal recreational option for families visiting the park.
Ponderosa Park includes large lawn areas for casual games or relaxation, as well as a picnic shelter for gatherings. Public restrooms and water fountains are available for visitor convenience.
Due to its popularity, especially on fall afternoons, parking can sometimes be challenging. The park encourages visitors to consider carpooling or using alternative transportation when possible.
