About Alpine Park in Bend
Alpine Park is a natural area located on the western edge of Bend, Oregon, adjacent to the Tetherow resort community and the First on the Hill neighborhood. The park spans approximately 15.3 acres and offers visitors a serene environment with stunning views of the Cascade Mountains.
The park provides important trail connections for the local community. A primary trail runs through Alpine Park, connecting the Broken Top neighborhood to Cascade Middle School and Skyline Sports Complex to the east. Additional trails link to the Haul Road Trail along Century Drive to the south, and to U.S. Forest Service trails to the west. Within the park itself, visitors can explore single track soft surface trails.
Alpine Park has an interesting history, having been affected by the 1991 Awbrey Hall wildfire which resulted in significant loss of tree cover. Since then, the park has been the site of several Arbor Week events organized by the Bend Metro Park and Recreation District. Pine seedlings planted during these events are now beginning to mature, gradually restoring the area's natural beauty.
The park serves as a habitat for various wildlife species, making it an excellent spot for nature watching. Visitors may have the opportunity to observe deer, quail, coyotes, and even bobcats in their natural environment.
Established in 1982 and improved in 1999, Alpine Park continues to be a valuable natural space for the Bend community, offering a mix of recreational opportunities and ecological significance.
