About Sylvan Park in Bend
Sylvan Park is located at the top of Awbrey Butte in Bend, Oregon. The park spans approximately 3.8 acres and offers visitors a peaceful retreat with ample open lawn space shaded by mature trees. Situated in a residential area, Sylvan Park provides a quiet environment for relaxation and recreation.
The park features a small play area for children, making it a family-friendly destination. Visitors can also enjoy picnic facilities, with tables available for outdoor dining and gatherings. For sports enthusiasts, the park includes two tennis courts that are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
One of the unique aspects of Sylvan Park is that over half of its area remains in a natural wooded condition, preserving the local ecosystem and providing a serene backdrop for park-goers. This undeveloped portion of the park contributes to its tranquil atmosphere.
Sylvan Park is connected to nearby Summit Park via an unpaved trail that passes through a natural area. This trail offers opportunities for walking and exploring the local landscape, though visitors are reminded to stay on the designated path and respect the surrounding private property.
The park was acquired in 1988 from Brooks Resources, with initial development beginning that same year. Additional improvements were made in 1993. The tennis courts and other amenities were constructed by Brooks Resources as part of the park's development.
Sylvan Park is open daily from 5 am to 10 pm, allowing visitors to enjoy its facilities throughout the day. While the park offers some off-street parking, spaces are limited, and street parking is also available for visitors.
