About Santa Clara Community Park in Eugene
Santa Clara Community Park is a future community park site located in Eugene, Oregon. The park is currently comprised of two open fields with informal walking paths on the north and east sides of Madison Middle School, off Wilkes Drive. Spanning 35.6 acres, this park is situated in the western region of Eugene and falls within the Santa Clara Community Organization's area.
Construction on the first phase of the park's development began in April 2024, with an expected completion and opening date in 2025. This initial phase will introduce several key features to the park, including a large playground, restroom facilities, a parking lot, an outdoor community gathering space, a picnic shelter, an open lawn area, and a multipurpose field. The Eugene Parks Foundation is also funding a spray play feature for the park.
To enhance connectivity within the park, a pedestrian bridge will be constructed to link the north and south sections. The park will also feature soft-surface walking trails and bike/pedestrian paths, which are planned to eventually connect with the West Bank extension project.
Future phases of the park's development are set to include additional amenities such as a community center and pool, court sports facilities, additional shelters, a dog park, and a community garden. These expansions aim to create a comprehensive recreational space for the Santa Clara neighborhood and the broader Eugene community.
The development of Santa Clara Community Park is primarily funded by a voter-approved 2018 Parks and Recreation bond and levy, along with Parks and Recreation System Development Charges. Additionally, the project received a $528,000 grant from the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department through the Local Government Grant Program, further supporting its development.
