About Hidden Creek Park West in Hillsboro
Hidden Creek Park West is a newly developed 11-acre park located on the west side of 53rd Avenue in Hillsboro, Oregon. Opened in August 2023, this park is designed to be fully inclusive and accessible for people of all ages and abilities.
The centerpiece of the park is a custom-designed, 50-foot-long cedar structure known as "Oro," a friendly forest giant. Named by the community, Oro (meaning "gold" in Spanish, as in "HillsbORO") lies on the forest floor with an outstretched hand and bent legs, inviting children to explore and play. The giant's body creates opportunities for various play experiences, including social interaction, physical adventure, and quiet spaces for solitude.
Hidden Creek Park West features a range of specialized equipment and safety measures to ensure inclusivity. The park includes a water play area, looping pathways, exercise equipment, and a hammock grove. Natural play features and naturalistic plantings are incorporated throughout the park, aligning with the "woods gone wild" theme.
The park also includes a sand and water play area, specialized runnel paving, a fitness area, a space for pop-up activities, and a games area. Climate-adapting landscaping and native restoration plants fill the open spaces, contributing to the park's natural aesthetic and environmental sustainability.
Designed in collaboration with the community and professional teams, Hidden Creek Park West aims to connect, create, and strengthen the Hillsboro community by providing a space that caters to diverse needs and preferences.
