About Cloverly Park in Philadelphia
Cloverly Park is a two-acre passive park located in the Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The park is situated between Wissahickon Avenue and School House Lane, bounded by Winona and Laurens Streets.
Originally part of the Edward White Clark family's estate called Cloverly in the late 19th century, the land that now comprises the park was given to the city in the early 20th century. Over the years, Cloverly Park has been maintained and enhanced through the efforts of local residents and community groups.
The park features a variety of trees, including some planted in the late 19th and early 20th centuries when it was part of the Clark estate. More recently, since 1993, approximately 35 new trees have been added to the park through community initiatives and gifts. Notable trees in the park include a copper beech, dogwoods, a weeping cherry, a yellowwood, and redbuds.
Cloverly Park serves as a green oasis in the urban landscape, providing a space for passive recreation and enjoyment of nature. The Friends of Cloverly Park, a local community group, organizes volunteer activities to maintain and improve the park, including weeding, mulching, and basic tree care during Love Your Park service days.
