Malcolm X Park

Malcolm X Memorial Park is a 6-acre urban park located in West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Situated between Pine Street and Larchwood Avenue from 51st to 52nd Street, the park serves as a community hub in this diverse neighborhood.

Originally established in 1903 as Black Oak Park, it was renamed Malcolm X Memorial Park in 1993 following community advocacy efforts. The park is home to over 100 mature oak trees, providing ample shade throughout the green space.

The park features two playground areas for children, as well as a large central gazebo that serves as a focal point for community gatherings and events. Paved walking paths wind through the park, allowing visitors to stroll beneath the towering oaks.

Malcolm X Memorial Park hosts various community activities throughout the year, including summer jazz festivals, Juneteenth celebrations, and regular cleanup events organized by the Friends of Malcolm X Park volunteer group. The park aims to be a safe and inviting environment for all community members to enjoy.

In recent years, the park has received funding for improvements, including repairs to the gazebo, bathrooms, and lighting. These enhancements aim to maintain the park as a vibrant community asset for West Philadelphia residents.
