About Sheraden Park in Pittsburgh
Sheraden Park is a 52-acre public park located in the Sheraden neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The park was established in 1914 when the City of Pittsburgh purchased 23 acres of the old Sheraden farm, forming the foundation of what would become Sheraden Park. Over the years, the park expanded through additional land acquisitions to reach its current size.
Situated between Pittsburgh's Sheraden, Esplen, and Chartiers City neighborhoods, Sheraden Park features varied terrain including wooded hillsides and more level areas. The park's topography provides opportunities for both nature trails and developed recreational facilities. Historic trees add to the park's natural character.
Sheraden Park serves as an important green space and community gathering place for residents of West Pittsburgh. The park offers a range of recreational amenities for visitors, including sports facilities, a swimming pool, and playground areas. A woodland trail allows park-goers to experience the more natural sections of the park.
The City of Pittsburgh's Department of City Planning has undertaken a master planning process for Sheraden Park to guide future improvements and expansions. This includes exploring potential land acquisition to connect the park to nearby Chartiers Creek, which would provide public waterfront access. The master plan aims to enhance Sheraden Park as one of Pittsburgh's signature community parks.
