About Oswaldo A.B. Cantu/Pan Am Neighborhood Park in Austin

Pan American Neighborhood Park is a 6.5-acre green space located in East Austin, Texas. Established in 1940, the park has undergone several renovations and improvements over the years, with significant alterations in 1956, 1958, 1978, 1996, 2004, and 2019.

The park features a mix of recreational facilities and natural areas, providing a versatile space for community gatherings and outdoor activities. One of its most notable features is the Hillside Amphitheater, added in 1958, which hosts the annual Hillside Summer Concert Series, Austin's longest-running outdoor music program. The amphitheater is adorned with vibrant murals by local Chicano artist Raul Valdez, depicting themes of Mexican-American experiences, from migrant families to political activism.

At the heart of the park is the Oswaldo A.B. Cantu/Pan American Recreation Center, named after a former boxing coach and community leader. This facility offers various programs and activities for visitors of all ages, including youth and adult sports, boxing classes, after-school programs, and seasonal camps.

In 2019, the park's playground underwent renovation, introducing new equipment, additional seating, and improved connections to the surrounding neighborhood. The park also includes a children's wading pool, providing a refreshing spot for families during hot Texas summers.

Pan American Neighborhood Park serves as an important community hub, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of East Austin while offering modern amenities for recreation and leisure.
