About Monte Bella Trails Park in Brownsville
Monte Bella Trails Park is a natural preserved park located in Brownsville, Texas. Opened in 2007, this 40-acre park serves as a buffer between the rapidly growing residential west side of Brownsville and the Rio Grande River East-West Natural Corridor system.
The park features a beginner-level 7-mile single track mountain bike course that runs counter-clockwise with an elevation of 31 feet. This trail is not only popular among cyclists but also attracts runners and hikers. The terrain consists mainly of hard-packed clay when dry, allowing for quick corners and good speed. The trail winds through mesquite trees and cacti, offering a unique South Texas landscape experience.
Monte Bella Trails Park is known for its abundance of wildlife, particularly in spring and fall. Visitors may encounter various birds, lizards, and rabbits along the trails. The park also boasts open green spaces and wooded areas, providing a diverse natural environment for outdoor enthusiasts.
In addition to the bike trail, the park includes a 21-hole disc golf course, catering to both novice and experienced players. The course features both long and short concrete tee pads, making it suitable for golfers of all skill levels.
Recent improvements to the park include the addition of two camping pads and the opening of the site for rural camping (backpack in/out). The park has also secured grant funding from Cabela's and Bass Pro Shop for camping gear, allowing visitors to connect with nature by accessing equipment.
