Pedro "Pete" Benavides County Park is a spacious public recreation area located in Brownsville, Texas. The park spans 64 acres of land adjacent to Resaca de la Guerra, offering a variety of outdoor activities and amenities for visitors.
The park is dedicated to the memory of longtime County Commissioner Pedro "Pete" Benavides, who played a significant role in its development. Situated at the corner of Browne Road and California in the Southmost area of Brownsville, the park provides a natural setting for community gatherings and recreational pursuits.
One of the park's notable features is its 1-mile Resaca frontage nature trail, which includes two nature observation stations, allowing visitors to explore and appreciate the local flora and fauna. Additionally, the park boasts a 1.5-mile walking trail with five integrated workout stations, catering to fitness enthusiasts and those seeking a more active outdoor experience.
In recent years, the park has seen continued development and expansion of its facilities. In October 2022, a new covered basketball court was added, measuring approximately 100 feet by 70 feet, complete with lighting and two covered bleacher areas for spectator seating. More recently, in January 2025, the park introduced its first permanent public pickleball courts, further diversifying its recreational offerings.
The park's hours of operation are from sunrise to 10 pm, with specific hours for certain amenities like the splash pad, which is open from 12 pm to 8 pm.
