McKenna Park

McKenna Park is an 18-acre neighborhood park located in Denton, Texas. Situated between Scripture and Panhandle Streets along N. Bonnie Brae Street, the park offers a serene green space for local residents and visitors alike.

The park is named after George McKenna, who, although he never lived in Denton, grew up in Denton County. After a career as an engineer in Fort Worth, McKenna approached Denton city leaders to bequeath his estate for the creation of this park.

One of the park's most distinctive features is a large water tower located in its center. The park's playground area is noteworthy, featuring eight slides and climbing areas connected together like an obstacle course, presenting an exciting challenge for children. There's also a swingset with two big kid swings and two baby swings.

McKenna Park provides ample space for outdoor activities and relaxation. It features several covered pavilions and picnic areas, making it an ideal spot for family gatherings and community events. The park also includes a basketball court for sports enthusiasts.

While the park offers many amenities, visitors should note that there are no restroom facilities available. Additionally, the playground is situated on a hill next to a busy street, so parents are advised to keep a close eye on their children.

The park is generally well-maintained and clean, offering a pleasant environment for various activities such as walking, playing, and relaxation. However, some visitors have noted that there isn't a lot of shade on warm days, which could be a consideration for summer visits.
