About Ascarate Park in El Paso
Ascarate Park is the largest public-use recreational park in El Paso County, Texas, spanning over 400 acres. Located on Delta Drive, the park offers a diverse range of outdoor activities and facilities for visitors of all ages.
The centerpiece of Ascarate Park is its 48-acre surface lake, which provides opportunities for fishing and non-motorized boating. The lake is stocked with various fish species, including trout in winter and catfish in summer, as well as largemouth bass, black bass, sun perch, blue gill, carp, shad, crappie, and hybrid sunfish. A lakeside boardwalk allows visitors to enjoy scenic views and leisurely strolls.
For golf enthusiasts, the park features an 18-hole, 72-par golf course and a 9-hole executive course called the Delta 9. The facility includes a lighted driving range, three putting greens, two chipping greens, and a practice bunker.
Ascarate Park also boasts an aquatic center with a 50-meter Olympic-size outdoor competition pool, one of the few in El Paso County. The center includes a children's pool, a large waterslide, and two smaller slides for younger visitors.
Sports facilities in the park include softball fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, and a large soccer field. There are also dedicated areas for picnicking, with tables and BBQ grills available for public use.
The park is open year-round, with extended hours during the summer months. While entrance is free on weekdays, there is a nominal parking fee on weekends and holidays. Ascarate Park serves as a popular destination for local families and visitors, offering a clean and safe environment for various recreational activities in the heart of El Paso.
