Memorial Park

Memorial Park is a large urban park located in Houston, Texas. Spanning approximately 1,466 acres, it is one of the largest urban parks in the United States. The park was established in 1924 on land that was formerly Camp Logan, a World War I training camp.

Situated mostly inside Houston's 610 Loop, Memorial Park is bordered by Memorial Drive to the south, which runs through the park connecting downtown Houston to the west. The park's location makes it easily accessible to residents from various parts of the city.

Memorial Park offers a diverse range of natural environments and recreational facilities. It includes extensive wooded areas, with over 600 acres of urban wilderness featuring natural and surfaced trails. The park's ecological composition includes native ecosystems that support local wildlife and plant species.

One of the park's most popular features is the Seymour Lieberman Exer-Trail, a 2.93-mile crushed granite running path that sees millions of visitors annually. This trail is often cited as one of the most-used running trails in the nation.

The park also houses the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center, a 155-acre nature sanctuary that provides education about the natural environment. Additionally, Memorial Park includes a golf course, which has been rated among the top municipal golf courses in the country.

In recent years, Memorial Park has undergone significant renovations and improvements as part of a long-term master plan. These developments aim to enhance the park's resilience, reconnect its various areas, and improve overall visitor experience while preserving its natural character and cultural history.
