About Peggy Park in Houston

Peggy Park is a small community park located in Houston, Texas. The park was originally dedicated in 1927 and named after Elizabeth "Peggy" Stevens MacGregor, wife of prominent Houston businessman Henry Frederick MacGregor.

The centerpiece of Peggy Park is a bronze statue of Peggy MacGregor attached to a 28-ton piece of white granite. This statue was created by sculptor John Gutzon Borglum, who later went on to carve Mount Rushmore. The statue was initially placed in a triangular pocket park bounded by Wheeler, Almeda and Chenevert streets, before being moved to its current location in MacGregor Park in 1996.

Peggy Park provides green space and recreational opportunities for residents in the surrounding neighborhood. While relatively small in size, it offers a pleasant outdoor area for relaxation and light activities within an urban setting. The park is managed and maintained by the Houston Parks and Recreation Department as part of their citywide network of public parks and green spaces.
