Alabonson Park

Alabonson Park is a 50.21-acre multi-use park located along N. Houston Rosslyn Road in Houston, Texas. The park was developed as part of a flood mitigation project along White Oak Bayou, combining recreational facilities with flood control infrastructure.

The park's development was made possible through funding from multiple sources, including a $2 million appropriation from Harris County Precinct 4 Park Bond funds, a $1 million grant from Texas Parks & Wildlife, and a land donation from the City of Houston. Additionally, the State of Qatar contributed $1.3 million through its Qatar Harvey Fund for the construction of soccer fields designed to also function as water collection basins to mitigate future flooding.

Alabonson Park features a variety of sports facilities and recreational amenities. The park includes multiple sports fields to support youth and adult athletics, including softball, soccer, and football. Walking and running trails wind through the park, providing opportunities for exercise and enjoying nature. The park also includes a playground for children, picnic areas for families, and a butterfly garden.

A pavilion in the park offers picnic tables and a community meeting room, providing space for neighborhood organizations to conduct meetings. The park also houses maintenance facilities and includes ample parking for visitors. Precinct 1 Parks Department staff are present on-site during normal operating hours to ensure safety and assist visitors.

Alabonson Park serves as a cornerstone for neighboring communities, offering local families a place for recreation, sports, and outdoor enjoyment. The park's development demonstrates how flood control measures can be integrated with public recreational spaces to benefit the community in multiple ways.
