Woodland Park

Woodland Park, located in Houston, Texas, is a historic green space that has served as an urban oasis for over a century. Established in 1903 as Highland Park, it was initially developed by the Houston Electric Street Railway Company as a recreational destination for its patrons. In 1911, the City of Houston acquired the park, and it was renamed Woodland Park in 1914.

Spanning 19.67 acres, Woodland Park is situated in the Woodland Heights neighborhood, approximately 1.5 miles north of downtown Houston. The park is bordered by Little White Oak Bayou, which adds to its natural beauty and ecological value. Over the years, Woodland Park has played a significant role in Houston's parks and greenspace planning, featuring prominently in one of the city's first master plans in 1912.

Today, Woodland Park continues to be a vital community asset, offering a blend of natural areas and recreational facilities. In 2018, Woodland Park was designated as a Lone Star Legacy Park by the Texas Recreation and Park Society, recognizing its special prominence in the local community and the state of Texas.
