About John Valls Park in Laredo

John Valls Park is a public recreational area located in North Central Park in Laredo, Texas. The park opened to the public on February 2, 2020, after eight years of community advocacy led by the Skateboard Laredo group and support from city leadership.

The centerpiece of John Valls Park is Laredo's first poured-in-place concrete skatepark. The skatepark features a fusion of park and plaza terrain, split into two elevations. The upper level includes a barrier-style turnaround feature and a bank to manual pad. The lower section has a circular wedge feature, flat ledge, A-frame ledge, and a continuous 4-foot quarter pipe that transitions to a bank with an extension.

The park complements other additions and improvements to North Central Park. It is accessible via the N Central Park Trail and has parking available directly off International Parkway. The skatepark is located behind covered basketball courts.

John Valls Park was named in honor of a World War II veteran. The project was spearheaded by Councilman Charlie San Miguel and was largely funded by discretionary district funding. The park's design was influenced by community input gathered during public meetings and consultations with a city-delegated skater focus group.

Visitors should contact the City of Laredo Parks and Recreation Department for specific rules and hours of operation, as this information may change over time.
